HOSEA: The Unloved One

From the book of Hosea

Perspective: the prophet Hosea observing God's heart toward wicked Israel

His voice was peculiar, a challenge to emulate

A love I don't even have the words to replicate

Asked to bind myself to an unlovable one

I understood when I became the unloved one

He weeps and mourns like a widowed lover

His bride played the whore and chased another

She diluted every bit of love she had for Him

Yet His response was a promise of reconciliation

For the price of a slave I bought back my wife again

I'm learning love isn't about her worthiness

With a crooked, adulterous heart of sin

She's destroyed by ignorant unfaithfulness

Unguarded and unkept left to engulf in flames

The whore is wrecked by playing a losing game

Lovers rip out her eyes, she still thinks she sees

Yet her faithful husband fights till she's free

Loveless and disengaged, she still goes to His home

But obligation has replaced any love He's owed

Their marriage broke before it really began

How can trust ever be restored again?

He beckons His bride to come back home

When will she recognize He wants her whole?

"Return, my bride" He won't stop echoing

There's no other place for her heart to be
