I wrote this as a prayer after a night of worship where my friend shared a testimony about surrender. He described it like a sword being plunged through his chest, because it is the death of the flesh. I had been struck by Leviticus 6 that night, where it repeats over and over "the fire shall not go out" because the altar is always to be prepared for sacrifice. Sometimes it feels like a sword through our chest, but we must keep plunging it farther in, because we were called to die to ourselves. It's what precedes resurrection life.
I want to be surrendered
Not comfortable in this skin
That was supposed to stay on the altar
High priest bind my hands and feet
I plead with you to wrestle with me
I don't want you to find me struggling as I'm offered
Plunge the whole sword in
Keep the fire burning
It shall not go out
It shall not go out
These aren't extraordinary measures
It's what I already owe you
I'm bound by a sacrifice and now I'm to offer mine
The high priest is the highest king
Who remained on the altar I knew I wouldn't
To atone for the filth I chose over Him
