From the book of Ezekiel
Perspective: the prophet Ezekiel speaking to the nation of Judah
At His stifling magnificence sound is deferred
Unfathomable and untamed by my finite words
How delicate and inconsequential is mankind
Before the pinnacle of perfection undefined
The stones and the veil couldn't bear to contain
The holy of holies is displaced unexplained
How is it that I endure His glory and live?
No priestly training prepared me for this
A voice stood me up with a gutting remark:
"I'll fortify you against a people of brick hearts
Consume my words, fully digest this sorrow
For the chests of my own are indisputably hollow."
The sirens resound from your vandalized walls
But you choose deafness over my watchman's call
Only tumultuous storms brew on the horizon
So every whitewashed wall you paint with the sun
I entered your dungeon through a hole in the wall
I saw why God preferred exile in Babylon
His glory abandoned the path back to the garden
But only at the fall of its walls were you disheartened
This isn't just? Is not the problem your own heart?
Guilt doesn't trickle down like an inherited trademark
If you don't pry open your own eyes, He'll have to
The delight of your eyes fell because of you
You can't remember who you were, can you?
Abhorred at infancy desperate for rescue
Before you were able to speak, He said "live"
Because His love was never about your worthiness
Your skeletons now heaving through reluctant lungs
The Creator only had to breathe on you once
A resurrection that leaves your death dumbfounded
Only God knew your dry bones could live again
I saw His eyes as He knelt to open your chest
He pulled from His own, a heart without blemish
That hollow space now has soil for a garden
The only place you had known love unbroken
